The story of a 15-year-old, Rodney "Rochelle" Evan, sent home for cross-dressing was covered by both NBC 5 and the Dallas Morning News. The news provided information on what the situation was and gave quotes to support their findings. Eastern Hills High School gave the response of school discipline being confidential and could therefore not discuss the case with the media. The top school district official did use some similar words such as, clothing and discipline, to state that the students were disciplined for disrupting class but did not use words such as, suspension and discrimination, to describe the disciplinary actions that were taken. The two news stories were given by both Evan and his mother while the response was given by an anonymous top school district official. The two stories are in disagreement with Rodney Evan and his mother alerting the media of the schools discrimination and the school district denying the allegation in response with it being simply school discipline.

The tone of the response was professionally angry. They did not say more than two sentences to the media and did not write a separate response article to post on the school website. The school district made one statement and left it as that is all they will say on the matter. They do not provide much new information only that "students" were disciplined for disrupting class and not because he was a cross-dresser. The school did not fill in the gaps by answering any of the possible media questions and the media is still left wondering what will happen the next time Rodney "Rochelle" Evan decides to wear women clothing to school.

Grassroots vs. Astroturf

Grassroots vs. Astroturf

The Rainforest Action Network is grassroots. They have real people with a real cause. The finances they receive are from the community and their main issues is not to tear down other companies. "We publicly applaud and support political and corporate leaders who show strong leadership and innovation in advancing sustainability." (www.ran.org) RAN has a set strategy to get the word out and has many campaigns all of which are non-profit. They work closely with both community and non-government organizations that help support their cause and has a website set up for those who would like to donate to the cause. "At Rainforest Action Network, we are always amazed at how much kids do to help save the world's rainforests. We wanted to give teachers and students a place to show off their hard work."(www.rainforestheroes.org) The Rainforest Action Network can be proven grassroots by the many campaigns they set up to inform the community and help with this important cause.
